July 12 & 13

Sunday: We had a great day of fellowship with Nica brothers & sisters and greatly enjoyed their food and hospitality. We attended the Miranda's church, the family we had met earlier in the week. Yeah! The whole service was in Spanish with no English translation :). The praise and worship time was led entirely by the youth - vocalists, drummer, guitarists and keyboardist. Although they had no printed words or overhead for the songs, many of them were ones we knew and it was a wonderful time of worship.

After the service there was a woman from church selling homemade tacos. She explained she got up at 5am to start making the tortillas, preparing the chicken etc. We started with two and said we'd share but ended up getting six in all because they were so good. Another church family had prepared chicken soup and invited anyone from the church to come by and buy some. The pastor's family invited us to go so we walked the couple of blocks and enjoyed hanging out and getting to know both families better. The kids enjoyed it too because the family had two young boys who were watching Tom & Jerry cartoons. It's been good for our kids not to have a TV here but they gladly take advantage of opportunities elsewhere to watch.

Monday: We were back at the community sports center. We took our neighbor Katy along who graciously played numerous games of teatherball with Angelina while the rest of us headed to the library. The young librarian, Rosemary, does a terrific job but she often can have up to 20 kids all trying to do different things...reading, puzzles, crafts, checking out books etc. She had supplies out today for kids to make masks so we helped out with that. It has been fun to watch Sophia warm up to a couple of the girls b/c she has been sooo shy with everyone else. She invited Tatiana (below) and Monica to play ball outside and they eagerly accepted.
