August 2: Uvita Waterfall

Today is a national holiday, Virgin de los Ángeles Day (patron saint of Costa Rica), so there was no school.  The Bakers invited us to join them on their visit to Uvita, a small coastal town about an hour south of Quepos.  We rented a car and spent the afternoon together at the Uvita waterfall.  We were able to drive close to the falls and then had only a short (but wet & slippery) hike to the waterfall.

Sophia takes her turn jumping from the rocks.  Although Nathan really wanted to, we did NOT let him go down this waterfall!!  We saw people do it....they slide down all the way from the top!!

We also spent some time nearby in this pool with a mini waterfall

Since Nathan was disappointed we didn't let him ride down the big waterfall, he kept begging us to let him jump off this smaller one.  We finally gave in and thankfully it was an injury-free experience (Grandmas, George did it first to make sure it was safe!)

At the end of our return hike this beautiful hummingbird was just a few feet away from us.
