December 5: Artists in the making

These last four Wednesdays have been 'doubly artistic'.  I do art class with the kids each Wednesday and then for the last four weeks I also offered an after school Art Club.  It has been a lot of fun to see the students' creative side shine through this semester and to see their enthusiasm and willingness to stay (voluntarily!) an hour after school once a week for additional projects.  One boy even asked me if it's possible to study art in college.  It would be great if their creative interests continue to grow!

I take no credit for the projects we've done - I've gotten most ideas from art education websites or art teacher blogs.  This project was more crafty than artsy but a great way to 'upcycle':  the poinsettia leaves are made out of cut up toilet paper and paper towel tubes!

In Art Club today the students worked on a colorful crayon and water color portrait of Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus.

Prayer Requests:
1.  George has been sick with a really bad head cold these last few days.  Please pray that he recovers quickly and that the rest of us stay healthy for the last week of school (we finish next week Wed., the 12th).
2.  Safety in travel for this Friday's field trip to the Children's Museum in San José, the capital.  This is a really special opportunity for the El Puente students (1st grade and older) and they are really excited (as are we!).
3.  Next week Wednesday, the 12th, El Puente is hosting a Christmas pageant and Art Exhibit for family and friends.  As part of the program, the children will recite Luke 2, sing a number of Christmas songs and present a drama about the Christmas story.  Most students are not from Christan families so please pray that their love for and understanding of who Jesus is would touch the lives of their family members and friends.
