Next week is Semana Santa (Holy Week) so we do not have classes (our spring break week). We will use that time to travel to Nicaragua in order to renew our visas for our final three months here. Hard to believe how quickly our second half is going!
We covet your prayers for safety, good health, and patience as we travel and cross borders during the busiest traveling week of the year here. Please pray too that our house and belongings in Quepos remain secure.
We probably won't have much internet access while we're gone so we'll give you the basic outline now and try to fill you in upon our return:
Saturday: 9:30am bus to San José (3 hours); hoping to meet up with the CRC missionary couple who took us out for dinner a couple of weeks ago and do a little sight seeing downtown San José; hotel in San José
Sunday: 6:00am bus departure for Granada, Nicaragua (7-8 hours estimated including border crossing); hotel in Granada
Monday: walking tour of Granada in morning and then off to El Roble island in Lake Nicaragua
Tuesday: On El Roble island, one of the 360+ small islands formed in Lake Nicaragua from the eruption of Mambacho volcano hundreds of years ago. The very small island of El Roble is home to a French-owned hotel who rents out the hotel/cabin to one party at a time, so......we'll have a tiny island all to ourselves :) We stayed there in the summer of 2009 thinking it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and now when the kids knew we had to leave the country again, they asked if we could return to Granada and to El Roble island because they have such fond memories of our time there.
Wednesday: Leave the island and return to Granada (about a 15 minute boat ride) for the night
Thursday: Private taxi (1.5 hours) to border and then renting a car to drive from border to Quepos (about 5 hours)
I'll be headed to Nicaragua later in May. Too bad we won't be there at the same time. It would be great to see you.
