June 15: Travel Day

Praise God for a safe day of travel! A big thanks to our friends Gene & Phyllis for driving us to O’Hare. Our flight from Chicago to Miami went smoothly until we got delayed due to thunderstorms in Miami. We had to circle over Fort Meyers a while before being allowed to land. Then we sat on the tarmack in Miami. What was supposed to be an hour & 15 minute layover turned into a sprint to our connecting gate. We got there to find the entire gate area empty since all other passengers had already boarded. They let us on and closed the gate behind us. Whew!
We were doubtful about our luggage making it but were thrilled when they all came through to Managua. We also appreciated having seats next to a Nicaraguan woman who gave us lots of good insight into Nicaraguan life & travel ideas.
Joel, a former student of mine who now lives in Managua, and his friend Rachel picked us up from the airport and brought us to our home.
So thankful that our young travelers were such terrific troopers. We didn't hear a single whine the entire day - and it was a long one.....we left Zeeland at 8am and they didn't get to bed until 11pm MI time. (their best behavior was wonderful for the day of travel....they were back to 'normal' by Tuesday morning)
