Sunday, June 28: Relaxing Sabbath

Like last week, we attended the English speaking service at Nicaragua Christian Academy this morning. I would have rather worshipped in Spanish but we needed to make a couple of connections with people and this allowed us to do that. We were able to touch base with a staff member from House of Hope (see June 23 post) and also the missionary couple that runs a community sports center, both places we plan to volunteer at this week.

Our neighbor/landlord Miguel and his 12-year old son Miguelito invited us to see Miguel's work place this afternoon. His company manufactures and repairs hydraulic hoses and turbo chargers. It's located right outside El Mercado Oriental, referred to in our travel book as "Central America's largest market and scariest shopping experience". I could probably find my computer there since a lot of the goods being sold are stolen. It's not recommended for tourists to go there, so Miguel took us up to the roof of his company so we could have a bird's eye and safer view of the surrounding area. I smiled when we got back on the main level...the two workers had Spanish praise & worship music blasting over the sound of the machinery.

We played some family card games (spoons and golf are popular right now) and then all went to bed early - power was on and off all evening due to the rainshowers. Sophia wasn't a big fan of showering by candlelight - she'll be happy to have a bathtub again :).

Typical tin roofed houses - you can see some bricks/blocks on top to keep the tin in place

  1. Hi! Miguel can show you how to use the generator if you keep having issues with the power. Or I can email you instructions. We haven't had any power issues for over a year so we didn't think you would need it. Just let me know! Lora
